Safeguarding Adults and Children Training is essential for health and social care workers who may identify abuse, neglect, exploitation or other safeguarding concerns in the course of their work. This practical 3-hour course gives learners the knowledge and confidence to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and follow correct reporting and recording procedures.

Health and social care workers are often in a unique position to notice when an adult or child may be experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation or other forms of harm. Knowing what to look for, how to respond and who to report concerns to is an essential part of providing safe, compassionate and person-centred care.
The session explores safeguarding across both adult and children’s services, helping learners understand where responsibilities overlap and where different legislation, guidance and procedures apply.
The course uses discussion, realistic health and social care scenarios and case studies to help learners apply safeguarding principles to situations they may encounter in practice.

Course Aim
The aim of this course is to give health and social care workers the knowledge and confidence to recognise potential safeguarding concerns involving adults or children and to take appropriate action in accordance with legislation, organisational procedures and their professional responsibilities.
Course Objectives
By the end of the session, learners should be able to:
- Explain what safeguarding means in health and social care.
- Describe the difference between safeguarding adults and safeguarding children.
- Identify their own responsibilities for safeguarding the people they support.
- Recognise common categories of abuse, neglect and exploitation.
- Identify potential signs and indicators of abuse or neglect.
- Understand factors that may increase a person’s vulnerability to harm.
- Respond appropriately when somebody discloses abuse or raises a safeguarding concern.
- Explain how and when safeguarding concerns should be reported.
- Record safeguarding concerns clearly, accurately and objectively.
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and appropriate information sharing.
- Explain how mental capacity may interact with safeguarding decisions.
