Blended learning gives you greater flexibility. You will complete the required online learning before attending an engaging, practical training day at our Andover Training Hub. During the face-to-face session, you will practise essential techniques and apply your knowledge to realistic paediatric emergencies.

Who should attend this paediatric first aid course?

This Paediatric First Aid Course in Andover is particularly suitable for nursery and preschool practitioners, childminders, nannies, teaching staff, school support staff and people working in children’s services.

The qualification is designed to support the paediatric first aid requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Department for Education’s first aid guidance explains that early years providers must have suitable paediatric first aid arrangements in place.

Please note that individual employers remain responsible for deciding which qualification their staff need.

What will the course cover?

Throughout the course, you will learn how to assess an emergency and provide appropriate first aid to infants and children. Topics include:

• Infant and child CPR
• Using an automated external defibrillator
• Choking
• Unconsciousness and the recovery position
• Seizures and febrile convulsions
• Bleeding, shock and minor injuries
• Burns, fractures and head injuries
• Anaphylaxis and other serious medical emergencies
• Meningitis and sepsis awareness

Practical activities are included throughout the face-to-face session. As a result, you will have opportunities to develop your technique, ask questions and receive supportive feedback from your trainer.

Blended paediatric first aid training

You must complete the online learning before attending the practical session on Thursday 27 August 2026.

The face-to-face training takes place from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Training in Partnership Training Hub in Andover. During the session, your trainer will guide you through practical demonstrations, skills practice and assessment activities.

Assessment takes place through practical observation and appropriate knowledge checks. Therefore, learners must successfully complete both parts of the blended course to receive the qualification.

Qualification and certification

After successfully completing the course and its assessments, you will receive the QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF). The certificate is valid for three years.

Paediatric first aid training should be renewed before the certificate expires. The government also confirms that relevant paediatric first aid training must normally be renewed every three years.
