FAQs
Do Experts With Lived Experience Need Prior Training Experience?
For Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 2, co-trainers do not need prior experience of delivering training. The key requirement is lived experience of a learning disability and/or autism, which brings valuable real-life insight to the session. Co-trainers work alongside an experienced lead trainer, who supports the structure and learning outcomes of the day in line with national guidance from Skills for Care. Co-trainers are provided with ongoing support, guidance, and reasonable adjustments, and where needed we can also arrange dedicated preparation, training, and continued support to help co-trainers feel confident, safe, and fully supported in their role, while ensuring the training is high-quality and inclusive for everyone involved.
Which subjects can freelance trainers deliver?
Freelance clinical and non-clinical trainers can deliver a wide range of subjects across health and social care, provided they are appropriately qualified, competent, and working within their scope of practice, in line with expectations set out by Skills for Care and the Care Quality Commission. Non-clinical trainers commonly deliver mandatory and care-focused subjects such as safeguarding, mental capacity, dignity and respect, infection prevention, autism and dementia awareness, and person-centred care, while clinical trainers deliver hands-on or competency-based subjects such as medicines management, catheter care, stoma care, PEG feeding, wound care, and other nursing-led skills where they hold the appropriate professional registration. All trainers must also hold a relevant teaching or training qualification, alongside appropriate insurance and evidence of ongoing competence. To support high-quality, safe delivery, we can provide CPD, induction, ongoing support, and upskilling training where appropriate, ensuring trainers remain confident, current, and compliant with best practice and regulatory standards.
How do I share availability?
What documents are required?
To ensure a safe, high-quality, and compliant training service, we ask all freelance trainers to meet a clear set of pre-engagement requirements. These checks help us confirm competence, safeguard learners, and ensure training delivery aligns with best practice and regulatory expectations.
