Moving and Assisting Train the Trainer Module – 02/10/26

Our Moving and Assisting Train the Trainer Andover course is a practical one-day Module or annual refresher for existing trainers.

For existing workplace trainers who want to deliver safer, person-centred moving and assisting training. It may be booked as an optional Knowledge Unit after the core Train the Trainer programme or used as a standalone annual refresher and CPD update by an existing Moving and Assisting trainer who meets the entry requirements. The day brings together legislation, movement principles, risk assessment, equipment selection, practical demonstration, coaching and competency assessment. Learners practise explaining and demonstrating techniques, observing performance, correcting unsafe practice and recording assessment decisions. Small cohorts of no more than eight allow time for supported hands-on practice and individual feedback.

Moving and Assisting Train the Trainer Andover: course format

This one-day face-to-face module combines trainer-led explanation with demonstrations, scenarios, equipment practice, peer coaching and practical assessment. It is available as a specialist add-on to the Training in Partnership core Train the Trainer programme. Existing Moving and Assisting trainers who can provide evidence of a relevant trainer or teaching qualification and current occupational competence may also book it independently as their annual standalone refresher and CPD update

Who should attend this Moving and Assisting Trainer Knowledge Unit?

The unit is designed for workplace trainers, moving and assisting leads, senior care or clinical staff, managers and subject specialists who will train and assess colleagues. It is also suitable as a standalone annual refresher for an existing Moving and Assisting trainer. Learners must have completed the Training in Partnership core Train the Trainer programme, or hold a suitable existing trainer or teaching qualification. They must also bring current subject knowledge, relevant practical experience and occupational competence.

This is not an introductory moving and assisting course for new care staff or an initial trainer qualification.

What will this trainer Knowledge Unit cover?

The day covers the trainer’s responsibilities; relevant health and safety and equipment legislation; basic spinal anatomy, posture, ergonomics and efficient movement; person-centred practice; communication, consent, dignity, choice and independence; dynamic and TILEO/ELITE risk assessment; controversial and unsafe techniques; equipment selection and pre-use checks; and safe teaching of practical moving and assisting skills. Practical work may include sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit, assisted walking, responding to a falling person, rolling and repositioning, slide sheets, hoists, standing aids, wheelchairs and slide boards.

The techniques included will reflect the equipment available and the learners’ work settings.

Moving and Assisting Train the Trainer Andover learning outcomes

By the end of the unit, learners will be able to explain relevant legislation and trainer responsibilities; apply person-centred risk assessment and safer movement principles; plan and demonstrate appropriate techniques; select and check suitable equipment; recognise and correct unsafe or controversial practice; organise practical learning safely; coach learners and provide constructive feedback; assess practical competence consistently; and maintain clear assessment and competency records.

Practical assessment and certification

Assessment is integrated throughout the day.

Learners take part in questions, case studies and practical scenarios, demonstrate selected moving and assisting techniques, coach and correct practice and complete a structured competency assessment.

Certification depends on safe performance and successful completion of the required assessment activities.

The separate certificate confirms completion of this module and, for an existing Moving and Assisting trainer, may evidence annual refresher training and CPD. It does not replace the need for a suitable trainer qualification, current occupational competence, employer authorisation, appropriate equipment-specific instruction or compliance with organisational policies.

Relationship to the core Train the Trainer programme

This specialist unit develops subject-specific delivery and assessment skills. New trainers should first complete the Training in Partnership core Train the Trainer programme, which includes two teaching days and a separate half-day assessed delivery session.

The Moving and Assisting module is booked and certificated separately at £95 per person.

It is also included in the separately listed complete Train the Trainer bundle.
